The Pillars of the Community Award is FHLBank’s highest organizational honor and is presented annually to select FHLBank members within the states of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community development through exceptional and effective use of FHLBank’s community products.

Clear Mountain Bank utilizes FHLBank’s community products to support affordable housing, small business lending, and first-time homebuyers’ programs. Through a grant from FHLBank’s Affordable Housing Program, Clear Mountain Bank has partnered with organizations such as Bartlett House Homeless Shelter in Morgantown to help people experiencing homelessness and supports Habitat for Humanity’s work in Monongalia, Preston, and Garrett counties. The bank has also helped first-time homebuyers to take advantage of FHLBank’s First Front Door grant program. This program helps qualified first-time homebuyers with closing costs and down payment.

In addition, the bank also assisted multiple businesses across a wide variety of industries, where funding was partially obtained under the Banking on Business (BOB) program sponsored by FHLBank. The BOB program is designed to assist small businesses to obtain needed funding to help create jobs and spur economic development within the local communities of member banks.

"Receiving this recognition makes us particularly proud, as it affirms that our talented team is living out one of our key core values by actively engaging in local community focused initiatives," said David M. Thomas, president and CEO of Clear Mountain Bank. "At Clear Mountain Bank, we believe in the power of community and the positive impact that comes from working together to create a better future. This award serves as a testament to the dedication and passion of our team members who selflessly invest their time, talents, and resources to make a difference. We are grateful for this honor and remain committed to our ongoing efforts in building stronger, more vibrant communities where everyone can thrive."

The award was presented during FHLBank’s annual regional member conference. John Bendel, FHLBank senior director of community investment, spoke at the event about Clear Mountain Bank’s community achievements. Rob Flockvich, CRA officer and director of community outreach and retail lending, accepted the award on behalf of Clear Mountain Bank.
